Eight Sided Barn, North of County Road 15, Minnetrista, MN October 2005

Saint Bonifacius, Minnesota which includes: Grumpy's, Sherm's and Captain Rick's (the old Tommy's). Boni is on State Highway 7 and County Road 92. It's a city on a hill and from the Boni Highlands you can see the IDS Center. Some other businesses in Boni are: Gregg Floor Covering, Lucky 7 Liquor, Saint Boni Ford, The Gun Shop, and St. Boni Appliance (the old Farm Store).
North of Boni on 92 is the old Nike Base on Nike Road. Some of it's buildings are still used, at least some of them commercially. The Nike Missile was supposed to shoot down Soviet Bombers attacking the Twin Cities. Its range was less than 100 miles horizontally. It was guided from the ground using radar and analog computers. It's heyday was before 1970. Around that time, the Soviets changed their emphasis away from bombers and towards Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs). This change made our Nike Base, outdated. Saint Boni has what appears to be a real decommissioned Nike Missile standing at its downtown City Park. August 2005

Andrews Sisters Trail. Mound.

The Andrews Sister Trail starts here and runs to Wolner field, passing by the new docks along the way. Due to construction, a small detour is required. Local author Tom Rockvam was instrumental in getting this project done.

"The Norsemen had a peculiar alphabet, consisting of sixteen letters, or characters, called runes, the origin of which is lost in the remotest antiquity. The signification of the word rune (mystery) seems to allude to the fact that originally only a few were acquainted with the use of these marks, and that they were mostly applied to secret tricks, witchcrafts and enchantments. But the runes were also used in communication by writing." - from Dictionary.com
"EUREKA, a post office, 1892-1900 and 1901-43, established for the people at Birch Bluff and Howard's Point, resort areas on Lake Minnetonka; it had a station of the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad." - From Minnesota Place Names

The new Highway 12 as seen from the Brown Road bridge. It runs just South of Long Lake. It is a two lane highway. The bypass will probably divert a little traffic off of Highway 15, for people living in North Westonka. Traffic using this section of the Highway should be able to zip past Long Lake. The project started in 2003 and the completion date is said to be Fall of 2008. The picture is from November 2006.
